Catholic sister, Annastasia Kinse
A former Catholic sister, Annastasia Kinse, has accused Veritas University and the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters of expelling her after she reported a case of segxwal harassment involving her Head of Department.
Kinse, who said she served faithfully in the convent for 10 years, alleged that her attempt to expose misconduct within the Church was met with intimidation, silence, and eventual dismissal. According to her, rather than investigate the priest she accused, Church authorities and university officials turned the matter against her.
“They can take my title but not my voice,” Kinse declared, vowing to continue speaking out against abuse within religious institutions. She said the experience had shaken her faith in human authority but not in God.
The former nun further claimed that her dismissal was based on false accusations that she had renounced Christianity for Islam — an allegation she described as fabricated. She said a Facebook post she made out of frustration was misinterpreted and used as a pretext to expel her.
Kinse also alleged that the priest sent to counsel her during the investigation was one of the individuals she had accused of harassment. “He came not to help but to take revenge because I refused his advances,” she said, adding that her personal belongings were later thrown out of her residence.
Despite the humiliation, Kinse said she remains steadfast in her faith:
“It was a cruel experience, but I still believe in God’s justice.”
In response, the leadership of the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help has denied all allegations of harassment and mistreatment. In a statement signed by Superior General Sr. Maryanne Ogwokhademhe and Secretary-General Sr. Rosemary Odion, the congregation stated that Kinse was dismissed over “acts of gross misconduct” and for “persistently rejecting fraternal correction.”
The statement also claimed that she had “defected from the Catholic faith and embraced Islam,” a charge Kinse has vehemently denied.
Meanwhile, Veritas University has not issued any official comment on the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
Kinse maintains that her battle is not one of revenge but of accountability. “If the Church continues to silence victims, it will lose its moral credibility,” she warned.
