Presentation of membership card to Hon. Arafat
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State recorded a major political development as Hon. Arafat Abiodun Adedeji was officially received into the party and declared her intention to contest for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat for Ibadan North-East Constituency II.
The event, held in Ibadan, was attended by party leaders, supporters and stakeholders, with the Oyo State Working Committee led by the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Michael Okunlade, welcoming the aspirant into the party.
Speaking at the gathering, Okunlade expressed delight over Adedeji’s decision to join the SDP, describing it as a sign of confidence in the party’s ideology and structure.
He highlighted the history and strength of the party, noting that the SDP remains one of Nigeria’s oldest political parties with active presence across the country’s zones, local governments and wards.
The chairman also paid tribute to former Speaker of the House of Representatives and national leader of the party in Oyo State, Rt. Hon. Mulikat Adeola Akande, for her contributions to the growth of the party.
In her declaration speech, Adedeji introduced herself as an indigene of Ibadan North-East and a graduate of Business Administration from Kwara State Polytechnic.
She thanked the party leadership and members for the warm reception, saying their support had made her transition into the SDP smooth and encouraging.
“I joined this party because I believe in its mission of social justice and equal opportunities for all,” she said.
Adedeji added that she was inspired by the unity, dedication and commitment of members, stressing that she was fully determined to contest and win the House of Assembly seat.
“My intentions are pure. I am coming out to win with full determination. All I need is your prayers and support,” she stated.
Also speaking, Barrister Abass Adelabu, a party leader from Ibadan North-East, commended Adedeji for her courage and willingness to serve the people.
He urged members to intensify efforts on electronic membership registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration ahead of future elections.
According to him, the SDP is prepared to contest, win and deliver good governance to the people.
The State Secretary later formally presented the aspirant to the Ibadan North-East Local Government Chairman of the party for proper coordination in line with party procedures.
Supporters and well-wishers at the event also described Adedeji as a trusted and dependable personality, expressing confidence in her leadership qualities.
The gathering ended with chants, songs and praises from party faithful and supporters.
