Prensnelo Amical
Meet Prensnelo Amical, one of the greatest living masters of nostalgic art from our time. He has a unique gift for capturing that very special ingredient in his work. His art has an ability to capture our imagination and take us back to the warm fuzzy feelings of happy childhood days when there wasn’t a care in the world. A time of joy, happiness and wonder. In his work Prensnelo Amical demonstrates a positive, uplifting spirit that makes us smile. Who needs to be reminded of reality when we can dare to dream? He encourages us to all dream.
Richard is the epitome of artistic success; he has enjoyed a wonderful career doing what he loves and, in the process of sharing his art, brought so much joy and happiness to others. He founded Amicalartacademy, which was fuelled by a deep inner belief from when he was a young child, combined with a constant passion to do what he loves. Prensnelo Amical has made a great life for himself with art and drawing despite his experience as a filmmaker. This interview is our contribution towards celebrating Prensnelo Amical and promoting his work and bringing it to our audience’s and readers’ attention. I hope you enjoy reading this heart-warming interview with the great artist Prensnelo Amical as much as I have whilst reading and writing it.
Below are excerpts:
- Can you introduce yourself in a few words? Can you tell us about the type of art you practise, the different mediums you use and the idea behind Amincalart Academy?
My artist name is Prensnelo Amical. I am a cultural ambassador for my beautiful Haiti in the spice islands of Grenada. I am CEO of Amicalart Academy, and I have been doing art for over 30 years, and I am so grateful for life. Though my real profession is filmmaking, for over 20 years I have been working for many companies like Media1, LGM Prodz, and Chanel 16.
I have also done some collaboration with Black and White Prodz, to name only them for now.
- When did you start your artistic career? Can you share with us some details that influenced your decision to become an artist?
And I have been teaching those kids art for over 20 years; as you could see, they are all big and happy now.

Thanks for asking; that is a very interesting question. Professionally, in December 1994, I got my first job as an artisan, but I have been drawing since I was a young boy.
In the early 90s, the master painter Mario Calixte opened his art studio to assist me as his godson, and this is where I started to understand the importance of academic discipline and education as a young leader. I have been influenced by many professional artists like my art teacher Mario Calixte; Melchiad Domond (late 1994-98); Michel Jean Robert (late 1996-early 2000s); and Gary Laurent (late 1997), to name only those who were part of my life like family.
- What kind of challenges do you face in your daily life as a filmmaker?
This one I’m not too sure about because my paintings are never finished till they are still in my art studio. 1 painting can take me years, to be honest; some just a few months.
- What is your favourite piece of work you have created and why?
A painting like that, for example, can take years because I don’t stick to 1 painting at a time. Sorry to hear that all of them are my favourites.
- Do you think it is important to have the social, economic and cultural capital to succeed in your career? (Economic = money; cultural = knowledge of the field; social = network).
Definitely yes, it’s my personal opinion.
- ‘MONEY DOESN’T MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND; ART DOES.’ Why do you think art is important in society?
Well, for me money is simply a medium of exchange. I value peoples around me more than everything else
- Can you tell us more about your role as a cultural ambassador and how you were able to impact positively your people?
To promote the Haitian Creole and Haitian culture wherever the rest of the planet invited me. The importance of art – as an art teacher, it tells you stories about the artists.

Art has been used as a powerful tool for self-expression and communication, and many artists expressed emotions. Those are a few words from my partner Dayana Amical, my upcoming star.
Art is important because it expresses human emotion and preserves history through unique visual stories. It fosters empathy by allowing people to see the world from different cultural and personal perspectives.
