African International Collaborative Center (AICC)
The African International Collaborative Center (AICC), a Bronx-based nonprofit serving African immigrants and underserved communities, has received a 2026 REMAP regrant award from the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), according to AICC, to support nonpartisan civic engagement and voter education.
In a statement received by Dotolive News Magazine. It was noted that the award strengthens AICC’s efforts to connect community members with reliable election information, encourage voter preparedness, and expand opportunities for civic participation.
REMAP, which stands for Register, Educate, Mobilise, Advocate, and Protect, is part of NYIC’s broader strategy to build sustained civic engagement among immigrant communities across New York State.
For organisations like AICC, community-based outreach provides an opportunity to reach residents who may face language barriers, unfamiliarity with election procedures, or limited access to trusted civic information.
According to AICC’s previously published community reports, the organisation participated in the 2024 REMAP initiative through voter registration drives, voter education, door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and text banking.
The organisation’s 2026 Get Out the Vote campaign builds on that experience, emphasising nonpartisan information, community partnerships, and informed participation ahead of the November 3 general election. Under the leadership of Executive Director Dr Hadiza Osuji, AICC has identified civic engagement as an important part of its work with immigrant families and other underserved Bronx residents.
The organisation also recognises that civic participation extends beyond voting. Residents who are not eligible to vote can contribute through community education, volunteering, neighbourhood organising, and participation in local public discussions.
The REMAP award underscores the role of grassroots organisations in strengthening civic infrastructure and connecting communities with information about their rights and opportunities to participate.
AICC says its GOTV efforts are conducted on a strictly nonpartisan basis, without endorsing or opposing candidates or political parties
